i post the above as a comment on various ideas that the gospels might be invented.
perhaps we will never know.. the 'angels at mons' incident happened only a century ago but still illustrates how an exciting story can become widely accepted as history.

i loathed giving talks and doing meeting parts.
i dreaded all assignments.
i was intelligent enough and always did a good job, but all my jw life (born in to mid-30's) i enjoyed giving talks about as much as a visit to the dentist.. i am sure that 90% of all jw's similarly dislike it.
Comment from Milton Henschel, IN SEARCH OF CHRISTIAN FREEDOM, p. 232:
"And what will the brothers do if we give them more free time?
Probably use it in watching TV."
Ray Franz's Response:
"Whether they consciously think of it in this connection, the men in positions of leadership also know that the Watch Tower organization has produced a publishing empire of tremendous size, one that has taken decades to build up. That publishing system with its large, expensive branch offices and printeries and the impressive, multi-storied dwellings for those operating these, are a source of considerable pride and a frequently cited evidence of divine blessing and prosperity. Any diminishing of the pressure on Witnesses to engage in door-to-door activity with the publications flowing from that system could eventually cause that empire to crumble or require its being largely dismantled. I seriously believe that for many of those in the organizational leadership, the very idea of this is unthinkable."

just watched on netflix and had to laugh.
one of the few positives of being raised a d2d salesman it that public speaking was never a problem unless you do it too much.
my teachers hated me for being the one to ask the questions only a few others had.
"[. . .] one might say Before delivering his address the Governor ate a peach. But to say, Before the speech he ate a peach is to introduce an unintended levity and mar the passage with an unwanted jingle."

you don't need to post them !!.
people can see if they have a pm.. topics like this are simply noise and just make work to clean up so please don't post them..
Thanks, Simon:
I wondered why I had 5 messages unread. Thought it was an error. No, I missed some old messages, up to 5 years old.
Too late to reply . . .

i thought i was back on the jw radar after my jw daughter had a local elder call on me back in 2011 - but apparently not.
he obviously didn't let his elders know i lived here, no record was kept for posterity and just called my daughter telling her that her " dad has differences with the organization " because he never called back on me as he promised to talk again.
as i'm just inactive for 10 years.. so these two older jw ladys come knocking yesterday - one lady about 57 and the other lady older about 71 yrs.old ( i asked how long they had been jw's and told me they both have been in 30 years.
Hey, Flipper:
Seems you've witnessed to quite a few of my friends!

greetings, soup lovers:.
i have a huge kitchen at my disposal (not my own); vegetables, cans of this and that and spices are scattered about, prepared to go into a cauldron of minestrone i started a few days ago.
i'm preparing ahead so as to freeze the leftovers to heat up later at home over my hotplate.. nothing like a 6-burner gas range to simmer over!.
Seems we have two different reply boxes.
Can't wait to try the different recipes! Yes, cofty -- the meal can wait; often, the soup is enough.
Thanks again.

Any further thoughts, Metatron?
I read the entire article and enjoyed it immensely!
Gratefully,
